Overview

Simpson College, a private, nationally recognized regional college grounded in the liberal arts tradition and affiliated with the United Methodist Church, invites nominations and applications for the position of a tenure-track appointment in Human Services at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2024.

Our department supports undergraduate majors in Criminal Justice, Sociology and Human Services. We also support a graduate program in Criminal Justice with a graduate certificate in Trauma and Resilience. Excellence in classroom teaching, grounded in inclusive pedagogy is essential.

The main campus is located in Indianola, Iowa which is just 12 minutes from the capital city, Des Moines. Additional facilities are located in West Des Moines.

Qualifications

  • We seek candidates with enthusiasm for student advising, new student recruitment, and other ways to support the mission of the institution. This includes (and is not limited to) providing effective instruction and advising to under-represented students and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
  • The position will begin August 2024, and a Ph.D. is preferred in Human Services, Sociology, Social Justice, Social Work or related fields. Additionally, successful applicants need to have interdisciplinary interest, and experience and/or expressed interest in working at a primarily residential, liberal arts institution.
