Overview

The overall purpose of the job is to plan, direct, and review the activities and operations of a comprehensive Social and Behavioral Science Division, including Anthropology, Government, History, Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology. To coordinate assigned activities with other college divisions, and departments; and to provide highly responsible administrative staff support to the Dean, Arts and Sciences. This position receives general direction from the Dean of Arts and Sciences, and exercises supervision over faculty, professional, and support staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in one of the Division’s disciplines (Anthropology, Government, History, Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology) from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: More than three years of increasingly responsible experience in one of the Division’s disciplines at the higher education level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: More than three years of administrative and supervisory experience in one of the Division’s disciplines at the higher education level.

  4. Assessing needs of faculty, staff and students.
  5. Time Management
  6. Organize, direct, and implement the activities of a comprehensive instructional program, including professional development and performance evaluations.
  7. Analyze problems and identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  8. Prepare and administer a budget.
  9. Supervise and evaluate personnel.
  10. Develop schedules to meet the needs of students.
  11. Interpret and apply college policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  12. Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  13. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
