Overview

Madonna University offers an undergraduate major and minor in Religious Studies, a minor in Philosophy, and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry. These programs are housed in the Humanities Department in the College of Arts and Sciences. The candidate for this position will be able to teach across the range of Religious Studies, including survey of religions courses, scripture, systematics, social justice, historical, and practical theology. A secondary competence in Philosophy is desirable. The primary responsibility of the position is teaching undergraduates from a wide range of backgrounds. Most of this teaching will be for the Core Curriculum, in which the required courses aim toward instilling religious literacy and an appreciation of Madonna’s heritage and Franciscan values. Teaching on the graduate level for the M.A. program is also required. Secondary responsibilities include student advising and recruitment, committee work, and ongoing professional development and scholarly activity. Active and collegial participation in the life of the university and commitment to student success are expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A terminal academic degree (Ph.D., S.T.D., Th.D.) in Religious Studies or Theology is required. ABDs will be considered if the degree (or successful defense) is completed by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will give evidence of an understanding of and commitment to Madonna’s mission and values, the significance of a liberal arts education in the Catholic intellectual tradition, and a willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues from across the University. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
