Overview

Faculty with rank workload at Dalton State College prioritizes the following five components: (1) teaching (2) student success, (3) service, (4) research (or other form of scholarly or creative achievement) and (5) professional development. For lecturers, work in teaching and student success will be emphasized. Duties include teaching courses in area of expertise, advising and mentoring students, keeping office hours, developing curriculum, assessment of student learning, providing service to the campus and community, and undertaking professional development. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, off-campus, or online courses. An on-campus interview and teaching demonstration will be required prior to an official offer of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students using Banner/DegreeWorks each semester for the subsequent semesters, assist with graduation applications, mentor students, and assist with career placement.
  • Actively participate and serve on committees at the College, School, and community.
  • Participate in other appropriate service and professional activities related to the field of expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or school dean.

Assistant Professor in Political Science

  • Standard load is 5-4 at the undergraduate level.

Assistant Professor in History

  • Standard load is 4-4 at the undergraduate level.

Lecturers

  • Standard load is 5-5 at the undergraduate level.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold an earned Masters degree from an accredited college in Political Science, History, or a closely related academic area for a lecturer position. Applicants must hold an earned Doctoral degree from an accredited college in Political Science, History, or a closely related academic area for an assistant professor position.
  • A minimum of 18 credit hours of graduate work in political science, government, or American history.
