Overview

Dalton State College School of Health Professions seeks a 10-month full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Social Work. Must have a master’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program and a minimum of five years’ practice experience.  LMSW licensure required. LCSW licensure or licensure eligible highly preferred. PhD or DSW in social work desired. Teaching experience in a higher education setting strongly desired.  Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.   Summer teaching might be available on a competitive basis.

The Dalton State Social Work program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. This position should be a clinician able to teach across the BSW curriculum and specifically generalist micro practice courses. Faculty workload at Dalton State College consists of the following five components: (1) teaching, (2) student success, (3) professional service to the institution and/or community, (4) research/scholarship/creative activity or academic achievement, and (5) professional growth/development.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate social work courses primarily micro- practice courses. The teaching load will consist of a minimum of 4/3 loads (12-15 credit hours per semester). Candidate must be willing to accommodate a variety of learning styles and strategies in instructional delivery. Courses are taught on-campus; this is not an online teaching position. Assessment of student competency is also part of the position responsibilities (for both SACS and CSWE).
  • Advising BSW students and/or providing supervision for students in the field will be required of this position. Additionally, assistant professors serve on faculty committees at the College and School and other community initiatives and participate in other appropriate service and professional activities as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a master’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program.
  • Five years post-MSW experience as a generalist social worker primarily at the micro-level.
  • LMSW licensure in good standing, in the state of Georgia or Tennessee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DSW or PhD in social work.
  • College classroom teaching experience.
  • LCSW licensure in the state of Georgia or Tennessee or licensure eligible in immediate future.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

  • Applicants must hold an MSW from a CSWE accredited program.
  • Applicants must hold and maintain appropriate licensure. (minimum LMSW) and be in good standing with licensing authorities.
  • Practice experience in micro social work, additional mezzo/macro/meta experience is beneficial.
  • Evidence of teaching/classroom effectiveness.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in face-to-face classrooms.
  • Willingness to accommodate a variety of learning styles and use applied learning approaches.
