Overview

The Department of Philosophy at Brookdale Community College is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to begin in September 2024. The Department welcomes candidates who are committed to Brookdale’s mission of success and academic excellence, and who desire to work in a diverse and dynamic environment. In addition to excellent academic credentials and subject area knowledge, candidates will bring to the college a passion for teaching, a keen desire to assist students, and a devotion to contribute to the Brookdale community. Candidates will demonstrate a love for enlightenment inside and outside of the classroom.

Description of Duties

  • Able and willing to teach all courses offered by the department, in all modalities.
  • Design, develop, and deliver curriculum.
  • Evaluate and report student progress, and maintain office hours.
  • Develop engaging teaching pedagogies that embody active learning principles.
  • Contribute to an enriching academic environment through teaching excellence; robust curriculum development and assessment; providing significant service to the department, division, and College.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional growth and productive scholarship.
  • Active participation in the College’s student success and completion agenda. Engage students in academic and professional opportunities through the curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Philosophy, as well as Graduate Studies in Religion, from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • Experience in teaching undergraduate level philosophy and religion courses.
  • Experience using a learning management system (e.g. CANVAS) to teach philosophy and religion, development of curriculum, and conducting assessments.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and an authentic commitment to a collegial working environment.
  • Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  • Commitment to continued professional growth and departmental service.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Evidence of technical literacy and a demonstrated willingness to maintain skills as technology changes.
  • Willingness to work in collaboration with department colleagues, and to teach classes in various modalities – face-to-face, via Zoom, or online.

Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations

Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities.

This is a full-time position. This position is based at the Lincroft Campus.

Candidates invited for an in-person interview will be required to present a teaching demonstration.

(Faculty members teaching extra courses or working additional hours during the academic year and in the summer receive additional compensation.)

This position may be staffed at the Assistant Professor Level.
