Overview

The Department of Languages at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish for the 2018-2019 academic year commencing August 2018. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. (ABD considered) in Spanish or in Latin American Literature, with a background in Afro-Latin American Literature and Culture, and native or near native fluency in Spanish.

The successful applicant will teach four classes per semester and will be able to teach all levels of Spanish as well as culture courses in English for Xavier University of Louisiana’s new Afro-Latin American and Caribbean Studies minor.

Ability and willingness to work collegially with a 4-4 teaching load are essential. Ideal candidates should also have the ability to develop and teach face-to-face as well as online classes, enthusiasm and experience recruiting and mentoring and willingness to contribute to the growth and recruitment of the undergraduate Languages programs.

The Department of Languages offers all levels of Spanish and French Language and literature courses and offers minors, majors, and concentrations. The Department also offers an Afro Latin American and Caribbean studies minor which is taught in English.
