Section I: Scope
Manhattan College seeks one visiting assistant professor or instructors for one-year position starting in Fall 2017, renewable for three years. 3/4 annual course load composed primarily of writing courses (First Year Composition). ABD in composition/rhetoric or M.A./M.F.A. with demonstrated experience teaching composition required; Ph.D. preferred.
Section II: Responsibilities
The qualified applicants will teach primarily in the English department’s First Year Composition program, teaching personal, critical, and research writing through self-selected themes. They will also have the opportunity to teach in our first year living and learning community, the Arches program, carving out space for service and experiential learning in their First Year Composition courses, if they so choose. Other responsibilities include:
- Attendance at programmatic/professional development meetings
- Assistance with program assessment and development
- Assistance with Writing Across the Curriculum committee work as it pertains to the First Year Composition program
- Service on First Year Composition student writing awards and/or First Year Composition student outcomes assessment
