The Corcoran Department of History and the John L. Nau III Center for Civil War History at the University of Virginia seek a scholar and teacher of national prominence in the study of the American Civil War era. This endowed position will be at the rank of full professor with tenure. The anticipated start date for the appointment is July 25, 2018.
The John L. Nau III Professor in the History of the American Civil War will serve as director of the John L. Nau III Center for Civil War History, which promotes scholarship, teaching, and public outreach regarding the United States in the era of the Civil War.
Experience should include:
- a record of advancing the field through the publication of original and significant research.
- a reputation as a leader in the field.
- recognized excellence in teaching and mentoring.
- a Ph.D. in a relevant field.
