Job Description Summary

Academic Sustainability Programs (http://acadsustain.auburn.edu/) invites applications for a full-time instructor position in Sustainability Studies.

The successful candidate is expected to begin Fall 2019 and to design, develop, and teach courses in Sustainability Studies.

We seek candidates who will strengthen our academic programs and interact with students in the Minor in Sustainability Studies (http://acadsustain.auburn.edu/sust_studies_minor/).

We welcome candidates with scholarly expertise in one or more areas of sustainability, including systems thinking, place-based learning, environmental and ecosystem services, water and food systems, energy and transportation, materials consumption and waste, and the built environment and sustainable communities.

Candidates are encouraged who demonstrate a strong understanding of interdisciplinary studies.

The candidate will have teaching responsibilities in undergraduate introductory courses in sustainability (which serve as a Social Science option in the core curriculum), and in projects-based capstone courses toward the Minor in Sustainability Studies.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with related programs, such as Interdisciplinary Studies, the Honors College, and other minors on campus including Hunger Studies, Community and Civic Engagement, and Environmental Design.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in an area of study related to sustainability by the start date, and relevant teaching experience.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills and collegiality.

Desired Qualifications

  • Desired qualifications include a record of scholarly activity related to sustainability studies.
