The Instructor NT is a non-tenure track position with responsibilities to teach full-time and to provide appropriate service. The Instructor NT may participate in research or creative activities.

Description of Primary Duties

Teach a variety of courses in the French undergraduate curriculum. Advise majors and minors in the French program and majors in Teacher Certification programs. Conduct performance- and proficiency-based assessments of students. Supervise pre-service teachers in all certification languages as needed. Participate in departmental service and outreach. Perform other duties related to K-12 teacher preparation as assigned by Program Coordinator. Facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

An earned terminal degree or the degree required for teaching in certain disciplines is required. Potential or demonstrated teaching ability is required. A willingness to serve the academic unit, college, and the University is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Additional Qualifications

Master’s degree in French, or Language teaching with emphasis in French

Native or near-native proficiency in French and English. At least five years of teaching experience (university/K-12). Experience implementing performance assessments in language instruction. Evidence of a record of effective teaching, including experience in the K-12 environment. Experience utilizing a variety of teaching methods and curricular approaches which promote diversity.
