Shenandoah University’s College of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of English and Writing beginning August 2019. This is a full time benefited faculty position located at our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

Primary responsibilities
We seek a professional writer who will serve Shenandoah University’s mission to educate and inspire students to be critical, reflective thinkers who have the ability to make responsible contributions through effective communication across fields, disciplines, and communities. Primary teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate first-year composition, professional writing, creative writing, writing courses targeting non-English majors, and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The teaching load is 4/4 with a course release available for scholarly purposes. All faculty at Shenandoah University are expected to perform community and university service, serve as student advisors, and continue as active scholars in their fields.

A Ph.D. in hand is required by the appointment date. We are particularly interested in candidates with specializations in writing program administration, writing in the disciplines, or composition/rhetoric, who can develop Shenandoah’s Professional and Popular Writing minor and provide writing outreach to schools outside of Arts and Sciences, including the Health Professions, Nursing, Business, and Conservatory. Desirable candidates will embrace interdisciplinary studies with an eagerness to teach First-Year Seminars and linked courses with other faculty from across the university. We also welcome qualified applicants with interests in digital humanities, creative and/or technical writing, film, and/or new teaching technologies.
