Position Description Summary/Purpose:
The University of Bridgeport College of Science and Society invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Psychology. The required credential is a Ph.D./Psy.D. in Psychology from an APA approved doctoral program (ABD, with expected degree completion within 6 months of hire date, will also be considered). Area of specialization within Psychology is open, however, we are particularly interested in someone who can complement current department faculty by having expertise in Clinical Psychology (a concentration in Clinical-Health Psychology or experience working with children in a clinical or research setting, will be especially considered). This position will begin August 2024. Review of applications will begin January 22, 2024, until the position is filled.

Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of innovative instruction in a diverse setting, demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, a desire to work with 1st generation undergraduate students, and a research agenda that has the possibility of eventual student involvement. To be considered for this position, the applicant must be available to teach on-campus. Full-time faculty members at the University of Bridgeport are responsible for maintaining the highest academic standards in their disciplines. Faculty workload is equivalent to 15 credits hours per semester, 3 semesters per year, which includes research, advising, service, as well as teaching load. Teaching is primarily in person but can include online (synchronous and asynchronous) as well.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

• Teach courses such as intro to psychology, research methods and statistics, as well as other undergraduate courses in the specialty area of the candidate (e.g., Abnormal Psychology).
• Conduct research in your discipline and engage in University service.
• Develop and deliver innovative curriculum and teaching strategies to support underprepared or novice students.
• Ensure that each course contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency, and is aligned with program and course outcomes as set by the department.
• Apply best pedagogical practices to the development of syllabi, the LMS resources, assessment, and classroom management.
• Submit reports in an accurate and timely manner including attendance, grades, and other related documentation
• Advise and actively coach students on academic issues, degree progress, as well as career and graduate school preparation.
• Hold regular office hours and spend time on campus as required by the faculty handbook.
• Participate as a departmental and program representative on standing and ad-hoc committees within the University.
• Engage in appropriate professional activities (e.g., research and service) to the field and engage students in your research.

• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:

• Ph.D./Psy.D preferred. Expertise in Clinical Psychology preferred.
• An active research program and evidence of undergraduate engagement in research.
• Candidates with a track record of innovative project-based or universally designed learning are preferred
• Ability to work collegially in a team environment
• Ability to exercise individual initiative, independent action, and sound judgment
• Ability to engage respectfully with students from diverse cultures, ethnicities, orientations, and religious backgrounds
