The Department of Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University invites applications for two tenure-track assistant professor positions beginning August 19, 2019. These positions are 9-month appointments, carry a 3/3 teaching load (9 credits per semester) of some combination of undergraduate and graduate courses online and on-campus from existing curriculum and new courses created in an applicant’s specialty area, student advising/mentoring, conducting scholarship/research, and participating in university and community service. The areas of research specialization for these positions are policing/law enforcement (http://jobs.nmsu.edu/postings/32582) and corrections (http://jobs.nmsu.edu/postings/32645), although we will consider candidates able to complement existing areas of specialty of our multidisciplinary faculty.
We seek exceptional candidates who can teach in the area of law enforcement or corrections as well as other areas that enhance and/or complement current departmental strengths. Furthermore, we prefer individuals who can teach a variety of criminal justice required courses, including but not limited to, research methods, quantitative research methods, crime theory, and ethics.
The Department of Criminal Justice is in the College of Arts & Sciences and offers a Bachelor of Criminal Justice and a Master of Criminal Justice (on campus and online). We are an interdisciplinary faculty and our Department includes seven tenured/tenure-track faculty and two full-time college-track faculty. Faculty are expected to serve both the online and campus programs. We serve approximately 650 undergraduate majors and 60 graduate students. Faculty research areas include juvenile justice, the death penalty, corrections, courts and sentencing, race, immigration, colonias, identity formation, and the borderlands.
