The Department of Global Cultures and Languages at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse-a department committed to high-impact pedagogical practices, diversity, equity, content-based instruction, and cultural competency- invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Spanish-Heritage Language Learning/Spanish for the Professions at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 26, 2019.
Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. Candidates for the appointment should have or be near to completing a doctorate degree in either Spanish, Spanish Linguistics, Cultural Studies or a related field by the start date. Degree must be earned by the first personnel review, no later than May 15, 2020. Successful applicants must have relevant experience teaching Spanish to undergraduate students and maintain an active research agenda.
We seek a colleague who has knowledge of teaching heritage speakers and who can contribute to our language for professional purposes initiative through effective interdisciplinary collaboration with other university departments and units. The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate courses for heritage speakers of Spanish, Spanish for professional purposes and Spanish language courses at all levels.
Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to develop and teach courses in Latino culture and society, have experience working with outreach and service-learning projects, have experience developing local and/or international education and engagement opportunities for students, and/or are willing to incorporate undergraduate students in their research activities.
All faculty in Global Cultures and Languages at UW-La Crosse teach 12 credits (3-4 courses) per semester. In addition, faculty at UW La Crosse advise undergraduate students; participate in service activities at departmental, college, and university levels; and maintain a progressing research trajectory.
