Overview

The Department of Spanish at The College of Wooster invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August, 2019. Field: 20th and 21st century Latin American literatures and cultures. Candidates with teaching and research interests in gender and sexuality studies and/or Latino studies are strongly encouraged to apply. Teaching will include courses in language, literature, and culture; participation in the College’s independent study program; and interdepartmental programs, including First-Year Seminar and interdisciplinary programs related to the applicant’s area of specialization. The successful candidate must show a strong commitment to dynamic teaching in a liberal arts environment, a willingness to teach outside of primary area of specialization, and a desire to contribute to the culture of the department by participating in, or planning, student-centered activities. Teaching load is 5.5 courses per year (averaged over 3 years). Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment and native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English required. Scholarly activity and service to the department and college expected. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (21% domestic students of color and 15% international students); applicants should have experience with diverse student populations.
