General Function (Description):
The Whitney M. Young, Jr., School of Social (WMYJSSW) at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA invites applications for a 9-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates shall have strong record of research, teaching, and service consistent with the appointment of an Assistant Professor. The candidates should have expertise in the following areas: social work practice, theory, behavioral health. In addition to teaching, applicants are expected to actively participate in scholarly activities, extensive student engagement and to contribute in the area of service to the college and community. Advising and mentoring are expected of all faculty. The newly hired faculty member shall abide by the provisions of the Clark Atlanta University Faculty Handbook and any approved revisions thereof, departmental, school and university policies, and the By-laws of the Board of Trustees.Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instruction of 9-12 credits or their equivalent per semester in social work field as well as in any of the additional four curriculum areas: HBSE, policy, research, and practice)
  • Student advisement.
  • Service to the University, including departmental meetings and committee work.
  • Continued professional growth as evidenced by research, publication, involvement in professional associations and continuing education. Provide administrative oversight for the program.
  • Promote knowledge, skills, and values expected of professional Social Workers, and consistently role model these competencies in all aspects of the work.
  • Practice community engagement through collaboration with other professionals and a commitment to meeting the needs of underrepresented and marginalized populations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Applicants must hold a doctorate or appropriate terminal degree in Social Work
  • Two years of full-time post-MSW practice experience is required.

Minimum Hiring Standards

  • Education: Earned doctorate in social work/social welfare, or related field (sociology, psychology, political science, public health, anthropology, education).
  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited program required.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum of two years of full-time post-MSW direct
