Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the Department of English to begin September 1, 2018.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
We seek candidates who have an earned MFA or PhD in Creative Writing (Poetry), but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and will complete their degree by July 1, 2018. The successful candidate must have demonstrated excellence in teaching and will have prior college-level teaching experience in introductory creative writing and advanced poetry writing, as well as introductory and advanced courses in literature. The successful candidate will also have a strong record of poetry writing, demonstrated by publications or awards in established literary magazines or poetry contests. A commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising is essential.
Prior experience coordinating a reading series or reading events; with editing, publishing, or the Digital Humanities; and mentoring women and people from underrepresented groups is desirable. We are interested in applicants who will complement our commitment to students and faculty from diverse cultural groups, and who will diversify the expertise and experiences represented in the department.
Primary teaching responsibilities will include six courses per year. Course assignments will include introductory creative writing, advanced poetry writing, introductory and advanced literature courses in the English major, and contributions to general education, which may include January Term or First Term Seminar. Gustavus faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
