The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, a Palmetto College campus of the University of South Carolina, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English to begin August 2019. This is a nine (9) month, tenure-track position with responsibilities that include teaching, a commitment to scholarship, and university/community service. Applicants who hold the Ph.D. in English or a related field (or ABDs with a definite date of completion) may be considered for this tenure-track appointment.
This position requires the teaching of 24 credit hours per year, but to facilitate scholarship, tenure-track faculty receive a three (3) credit-hour reduction and typically teach twelve (12) credit hours in the fall and nine (9) in the spring, including evening and distributed-learning courses, as needed. The 3-credit-hour reduction is available post-tenure with demonstrated continuing engagement in scholarly pursuits. Most teaching involves introductory English but opportunities for upper-level classes exist. Internal funding for scholarship is available. Summer teaching is available, depending on funding and curricular need. Preference will be given to candidates who have documented effective teaching at the university level, including experience gained during the course of pursuing a graduate degree.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience; range is $40,000-$42,500 + state benefits.
