Washburn University’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position as an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science/Public Administration. A completed Ph.D. is required for the tenure-track appointment but ABDs will be considered If the Ph. D will be earned by December, 2018.


  1. A Ph.D. in political science with specialized training in public administration (e.g. MPA or public administration as a subfield) or a PhD in public administration with American government as a subfield.
  2. The position requires teaching experience or coursework that demonstrates ability to teach core public administration and nonprofit certificate courses to undergraduate public administration majors and political science majors seeking coursework in those fields. The position also requires the ability to teach American government, and courses of the candidate’s choice in the field of American government in the areas of institutions, process and or behavior.
  3. evidence of university teaching experience and an active research agenda.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to teach state and local government and or empirical research methods as demonstrated through experience, coursework or teaching experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 12 hour teaching load, demonstrated collegiality, strong commitment to undergraduate education, and ability and motivation to engage undergraduates in active research. The position requires the cultivation and maintenance of contacts with state and local government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and relevant interest groups as well as the establishment of internships in the above mentioned organizations. The position further requires working with the rest of the faculty to attempt to grow the size of the public administration major and to participate with the department in program offerings under the auspices of the Washburn Center for Government and public service.
