The Department of Political Science at Miami University is searching for a colleague in the area of American Politics/Big Data for an appointment as a tenure track Assistant Professor. The position will begin in the 2018-2019 academic year.
Duties/Physical Demands:The successful candidate will be expected to develop a record of excellence in undergraduate and master’s level teaching, including the introduction to American Government and other advanced courses that contribute to the department’s programs (a class specifically on “big data” and analytic approaches to studying politics is desirable); conduct relevant research leading to a record of published scholarship; provide institutional and professional service; contribute to all aspects of the departmental mission; and participate in the efforts of the university’s Center for Analytics and Data Science.
Minimum Qualifications:Ph.D. (by date of appointment) in political science, public policy, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:Consideration will be given to those with experience including but not limited to techniques such as statistical or machine learning, natural language processing, advanced hierarchical or structural equation modeling, network analysis, text as data methods, or other techniques involving large quantities of or rapidly accumulating data. This colleague would use these techniques to address a substantive policy area or areas such as political behavior, political marketing and communication, Congress, Public Opinion, Parties, Campaigns and Elections, or others.
