Overview

The Department of English at Adelphi University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Global Early Modern Literature who studies Anglophone literatures within a global context. The appointment begins August 2024.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The teaching load is 18-credits (3/3) with opportunities for research support.
  2. The successful candidate will teach lower-level surveys and upper-level seminars in their specialized field, including Shakespeare.
  3. Our new colleague will have opportunities to collaborate with Adelphi faculty in the development of such interdisciplinary studies programs as Asian Studies; African, Black and Caribbean Studies; Latin American and Latinx Studies; and Gender and Sexuality Studies.
  4. Our department additionally welcomes candidates whose research and teaching interests span various fields or theoretical concerns, and who can develop new courses within our “Critical Perspectives” category of upper-division electives. QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. PhD in a relevant discipline is required by August 1, 2024.
  2. We strongly encourage applicants with a specific theoretical research agenda that engages this dynamic period of cultural exchange and/or its global reception history.
  3. Further, we especially welcome applicants who can demonstrate experience working with students from diverse populations, particularly students from historically underrepresented groups.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $77,000 – $78,500. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
