Major Function:
Primary responsibilities will be to teach introductory American history courses. However, the candidate should also be able to teach Latin American or non-Western history courses. The successful candidate will strengthen the History program through creative pedagogy and positive commitment to maintaining a collegial environment. Teaching and workload assignments are scheduled throughout the academic year and may require evening and weekend obligations at one or more college locations.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Effectively prepare and teach History classes to facilitate student learning.
2. Assess and maintain records of student performance.
3. Develop, distribute and adhere to current course outlines and/or syllabi.
4. Participate in curriculum development and textbook selection.
5. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and workshops and accept committee assignments.
6. Advise students on program and/or course requirements.
7. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to Division, School and College mission and values.
8. Maintain a supportive attitude toward work, students, colleagues, administration and with people of diverse backgrounds.
9. Demonstrate a depth of understanding in the field of History.
10. Demonstrate distinctive promise as an instructor in the History Department.
11. Maintain regularly scheduled office/consultation hours.
12. Demonstrate commitment to professional development and significant contributions to the History Department.
13. Participate in the exploration of the most productive and pedagogically sound avenues incorporating technology for distance education within the discipline of History.
14. Attendance at New Faculty Orientation sessions is required.
15. Accept other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Doctorate in related field
2. Secondary field in Latin American History or Non-Western History
Job Qualifications - Education and Experience:
1. Masters degree from an accredited college or university in American History
2. Teaching experience in a post-secondary educational environment
Applicants selected for an interview may be subjected to a teaching demonstration.
The college conducts background checks on the selected finalist. In addition, Official Transcripts are required before offering employment.
