Philosophy Lecturer
The Philosophy Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for a nine-month lecturer position to begin August 2010. The lecturer will teach four courses a semester to undergraduate students such as Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics (Criminal Justice Ethics and other Applied Ethics) and other Philosophy classes.
The lecturer will also perform service to the Department in support of curriculum, teaching, and service to the University and Community, attend departmental meetings, hold regular office hours and perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Ability to teach Philosophy, Ethics (Criminal Justice Ethics and other Applied Ethics) and/or other Philosophy classes at the college level
* Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff and colleagues both orally and in writing
* Sensitivity to, or experience in, working with a diverse, multicultural population including religious diversity
* Ability to engage in appropriate instructor-student relationships and interactions and collegial conduct
* Ability to use a computer, word processing software, email, the web, office equipment, printers and copy machine
* Ability to sit, stand and use a computer for extended periods of time
Qualifications:
Required:
* ABD or Ph.D in Philosophy
Preferred:
* Ph.D in Philosophy
* Experience teaching Philosophy or related subject at the college level
* Experience teaching Ethics (Criminal Justice Ethics and other Applied Ethics), Philosophy of Law, and/or Political Philosophy
* Experience teaching students of diverse and multicultural backgrounds
Salary:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Wisconsin System provides a liberal benefits package, including participation in a state pension plan.
